The Key Worker program provides families with an opportunity to gain and access community supports for their children who are affected with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) as well as Complex Developmental Behaviour Conditions (CDBC). Through accessing Key Worker support, families will receive positive, solution-focused strategies to address their specific needs.
Key Workers assist families to obtain an assessment through Interior Health Children’s Assessment Network (IHCAN) and interpret their child’s assessment. They assist families with implementing recommendations from the assessment and provide them with skills and strategies to address specific behavioural concerns.
Key Workers encourage positive thinking for families by building on the child’s existing strengths to encourage successful outcomes. Key Workers assist families, social workers, schools and other agencies/community groups with family support, education, advocacy, resources and referrals.
Additionally, a parent support group is hosted through the Key Worker program (Kamloops only). Groups are held weekly and provide a safe and confidential environment for caregivers (birth, adoptive, foster, extended families) to share experiences and strategies, problem-solve, access current information and identify the child’s strengths. The group provides education, peer support, the sharing of information and is open to everyone at no cost.

We recognize that this territory has always been a place of teaching, learning and research, and we continue these traditions. We acknowledge the Secwepemc people who have been here for thousands of years. We acknowledge the many Indigenous Peoples from across this land.
