Family Support Work Program

Family Support Services for Children and Youth with Developmental Needs

This program supports children and youth with a diagnosed developmental disability (including intellectual disability), Autism Spectrum Disorder, or those eligible for the At Home Program—along with their families.

Eligibility and Referrals

The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), through the Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) team, determines eligibility and manages the waitlist. CYSN, with input from Insight’s Program Coordinator and Directors, decides on placement based on urgency and wait time.

Program Overview

This is a short-term, goal-focused service that helps children and youth build life skills and independence, while also giving families tools and strategies to support their child and keep the household stable.

What the Program Offers:

  • Individualized Support: Family Support Workers meet with children and/or families for a set number of hours each week, based on clear goals outlined in a written service plan.

  • Flexible Format: Services are mostly one-on-one, but small groups may be offered when appropriate.

  • Collaborative Approach: Families are actively involved in planning and delivery, with a focus on building skills, promoting independence, and strengthening family relationships.

We recognize that this territory has always been a place of teaching, learning and research, and we continue these traditions. We acknowledge the Secwepemc people who have been here for thousands of years. We acknowledge the many Indigenous Peoples from across this land.
